Fear Sells - Global Warming

This past weekend's Live Earth Gorevent is a great example of marketing fear. The nine concerts around the world did little to help any environmental cause, but is sure make lots and lots of money for a few - especially those charged with cleaning up the mega-tons of waste left by so-called concerned environmentalists. I'm waiting for the first of these hypocritical superstars to announce they are giving up private jets and taking public transportation. It will be a very long wait.

One of the biggest ways to market something is to use fear. Global warming does exactly that. Now I'm a very conscientious recycler, and I believe in holding polluters accountable, but we live on a planet and this planet has cycles. Someone please tell Al Gore about the Ice Age, and about how the Great Lakes were formed - please! Zillions of years ago the planet warmed, glaciers melted and even moved amass across huge land masses. Then the Earth got cold again.

Profiteers have turned a natural cycle into a fear movement. Socialists love it because they see only governments able to "tackle" this fear with bigger government, more regulations, more taxes, etc. Have the media continue to pump it into the minds of people around the world and pretty soon people will assume it must be true.

The most incredible idiotic business of GW is buying atonement for your carbon sins through the purchase of carbon credits. I have see everything from "Carbon Offset Mortgages" to online sites where you can enter an airline flight from-to information, and it will calculate your carbon footprint (using some bullshit equation), then of course you can purchase your offset credit, lol, lol, lol.

So GW hits people in two ways with fear in order to suck money from them. [1] The Earth will self destruct, and [2] the fear of guilt.

BTW, if you plan to go to the Oregon Country Fair this year they are offering the option to "Green your ticket" - for $1.00 of course.

Oh P.T. Barnum, you were so right - "There's a sucker born every minute".

Just a "Thank You" to all the socialists globalists extremists that have been pumping up the BS on Global Warming (or "Climate Change" if you can't explain the unusually cold winters we've been having). Your efforts have paid off in more capitalism in the green market!

Mt. Hood Dummies: Lost VS Stupidity

Earlier this month the Kim family became lost on their way to their destination. Their unfortunate mistakes, along with an lame emergency services coordinator and football happy sheriff, cost Mr. Kim his life. When about a week passed Mr. Kim made the heroic effort (in desperation) to try and find help for his family. Mr. Kim's body was found not by any efforts of Oregon officials, but by a helicopter hired by Mr. Kim's father.

The Kim family was truly lost, yet official efforts to rescue them in a timely manner remain in doubt.

Now, more deaths in Oregon. Three out-of-state hikers, ignoring many signs, attempt to climb Mt. Hood this month. Now dead, I have to wonder why these three received so much dedicated resources that the Kim family did not.

The Hood Hikers didn't get lost - they knew where they were going, when they were going, and what they chose to do. They took a chance - and lost. Sort of like someone claiming to be an expert swimmer diving off the Golden Gate bridge (duh).

So why was stupidity rewarded over innocence? Good question. Why do I say they were stupid while family members and others say they were experienced climbers? Two BIG signs they ignored:

• Sign 1 ignored: They knew storms were approaching, yet they decided to Go For It
  
  
• Sign 2 ignored: The climbing season for Mt. Hood is between May and July - NOT December, yet they decided to Go For It.
  

While they have climbed other mountains (never Mt. Hood) they surely were not smart climbers:

• No reliable communication devices
  
  
• No GPS devices to relay coordinates should they run into trouble
  
  
• No emergency radio beacon (such as a COSPAS-SARSAT or equiv.)
  
  
• No adequate provisions - they packed light expecting a short trip
  

Then I have to think of the lives at risk and the money spent because of these three dead guys that intentionally did what they did, when they did, and how they did.

I am sad for the families, no doubt about that.

I have to wonder if this same effort applied to the innocent and truly lost Kim family would have prevented the sad death of James Kim.
