Free Speech? - Verboten by Das Regierung!

Free speech works both ways. Someone speaks, someone listens. This applies to audio, visual, as well as written speech.

There are actually many countries that have governments that control and/or totally block public access to various internet sites. They use the powerful arm and hammer of government to threaten internet providers in their country at threat of everything from imprisonment to closure. Most pervasive are Cuba, Iran, Maldives, North Korea, Mainland China, Syria, and others.

When I mention free speech I'm not talking about child pornography but social, political, scientific, and other content. I'm also against banning portals where copyright material can be exchanged mainly because I feel it is the company of origin to deal with security issues and not internet service providers.

Think the USA supports free speech on the internet or is the USA becoming like countries we use to criticize as not being free?

    NO NO NO
    IT IS EITHER FORBIDDEN OR
    RESTRICTED THE ACCESS
    AMERICAN CITIZENS CAN HAVE
    OR PROVIDE

Take the most recent case of Federal Judge - US District Judge Jeffrey White (Bush appointed) - signing a permanent injunction ordering wikileaks.org to be shut down. You can go to this site using their static IP address, and bypass the Federally-terminated site name by clicking HERE.

Is this the only case of BIG GOVERNMENT censorship? Nope. Last month another Federal judge - Jack B. Weinstein - (Johnson appointed) banned a large number of activists in the psychiatric survivors movement from posting links on a website that were critical of Eli Lilly - a huge drug company.

Then you have the Department of Defense restricting (blocking) from US soldiers certain IP address from access - in the name of the fight against terrorists of course, but that's another post.

America - the land of the free?

    Sorry, not this Amerika.

Vote for Ron Paul - to restore America to the land of the free.
