    Local Deceptions

In the Editor's Mailbag in our local Register Disregard newspaper Planet Glassberg (is that Janet?) makes a plea against a decent 25 year old company, Whole Foods Market, started by three visionaries. It seems that Planet does not believe in a small business growing - unless they are unionized. According to Planet's measuring stick if you have a business and you don't want the union infesting the hard work you put in to get your business to where it is at, then you are scum.
In the letter Planet spews the usual union lies - "employees receive low wages and are powerless". Now I have a feeling that if I walked into this store and asked an employee if they were happy or felt oppressed they would say they were happy. I also am sure that this store will have no problem getting future employees to sign up for their new store in Eugene, despite Planet's claims.
We see Planet continue with the common union slander tactics - try to undermine the store quality, try to slander the management, make the claim the store is not needed, make it look as if the "little fellow" will suffer if this mean big store comes to our town.
Planet references a comment by the CEO about unions: "Here's the way I like to think of it. The union is like having herpes. It doesn't kill you, but it's unpleasant and inconvenient and it stops a lot of people from becoming your lover,". Well now I know I MUST shop at this store! If I were interviewed I wouldn't have been so kind and would have provided facts why unions are anti-worker and anti-American.
I'm not sure about that last sentence, "keep the essence of our community unique". Perhaps some in this city think it's a union-only town? HA - guess again! Like all towns we like choices and options - and low prices!

slave labor practices - typical union lies. If it were so horrible why do people even work there? Why do they love it, contrary to union claims? Why is Wal-Mart growing?

If Wal-Mart were on a course to self-destruction then why does the AFL/CIO have constant attack plans they target upon Wal-Mart? Check out their current effort: LOVE MOM, NOT WAL-MART on their site.

Why am I so blatantly anti-union? Because I have the freedom to know the truth and am not one that is so easily brainwashed and gullible. I know how to weight the pros and cons and I have history on my side that documents the sad results of companies that end up unionized. In other words, I have the truth. If you want the lies then just listen to the unions - they are full of them. And BTW, don't blame Bush for all that outsourcing going on!

can someone explain to me how being forced to pay union "dues" in order to have the right to work is different from being "persuaded" to pay mob money in order to have the right to not have your place of business firebombed?

LOL, a very excellent point gullyborg - especially knowing that those workers have no choice and MUST pay those dues or be terminated! To me there is no difference. I'm sure many union workers feel the same - they just don't have the freedom to complain - or else!
