The human mind, body, and spirit can be both strong, yet so vulnerable. Usually what we learn, what we were taught, what we retain is that which helps us to survive. People know a constant diet of hamburgers is not healthy - yet people continue to do so. People know smoking has lethal health consequences - yet people continue to do so.
You're at a restaurant - a very nice one that you trust. Your friend had the chef salad. Three days later he's in the hospital fighting for his life. You didn't know the produce was not washed very well and the cook just did a toilet stop without washing his hands. E. coli bacteria claims another. Your friend trusted the restaurant to serve up safe and healthy food. You assumed everyone working in a resturant would be checked out - no hidden agenda - not a threat, totally honorable intentions. There was an expectation that the management would watch out for you.
Your mother is in the hospital recovering from a somewhat simple operation to remove those tonsils that never bothered her before. You go to visit her and the doctor puts his arm around you - "you're mother died an hour ago, we are so sorry. She had a heart attack and there was nothing we could do". Little did you know that nurse caring for your mother poisoned her with digoxin, a heart medication that can kill that is hard to detect. You assumed everyone working in a hospital would be checked out - no hidden agenda - not a threat, totally honorable intentions. There was an expectation that the management would watch out for you.
The politicians we elect are scrutinized - often more so by the other party. Such scrutiny takes place even after the politician is elected, usually in the hopes something scandalous can be discovered. As we have seen in the news all parties have had bad apples in their baskets - all the while those that elected them could only hope there was no hidden agenda - not a threat, totally honorable intentions. There was an expectation that the government would watch out for you.
Doctors, lawyers, teachers, nurses, engineers, all professional trades are accountable in some manner - except for one. There is no expectation that they will watch out for you. There is one profession that can freely feed biohazards into the most important part of our body - our brain. Yet, the media is able to spew poison without regard to consequences - and absolutely nothing is ever done - even if the media was wrong and their spew caused deaths - the perfect crime.
People make the assumption that what comes over the television, or radio, or in print is somehow valid, trustable, beyond reproach. From the media monoliths that create news or television programs or movies these are the ones that are penetrating our very core, manipulating views and perceptions - they are trained and experienced in doing so. Some might call it Entremaneur, others Propaganda:
a specific type of message presentation directly aimed at influencing the opinions of people, rather than impartially providing informationTo me, mass media professionals (broadcasting, film, publishing, etc.) represent the greatest biohazard to our country - no other profession can saturate the mind and soul and spirit of humans like they can - without consequences.
I would like to see those that feed my eyes and ears with news and stories and everything else be open with their lives - just like a politician. What are their personal beliefs? What memberships to they subscribe to? What political party do they align with? What is their income? Who do they donate to? Who has donated to them (or their company)? Why are they feeding me what they are? What is their hidden agenda?
